Marks & Spencer — Octopus

Marks & Spencer faced a problem most retailers quietly live with. In the women's clothing area, customers were having a hard time understanding the products in front of them, the differences between pieces, what made one right for them over another. The detail that decides a purchase was there, but no one was around to deliver it at the moment it mattered, and people walked away unsure.

We deployed the same lift and learn foundation we built for the rest of Fiba's brands, with our system optimizing content across every screen format and store. But here we tuned it for a different job. This isn't a campaign that interrupts, it's a guide that teaches. When a customer picks up a piece in the women's area, the nearest screen responds and explains it, clearly and patiently, the way a great floor associate would if one were standing right there. The product answers its own questions, exactly when the customer is holding it and wondering.

That solved the real issue. M&S didn't need louder marketing in that space, they needed understanding, and OctoSense delivered it at the point of doubt. The hesitation that used to end in a return to the rack now ends in confidence.

And because every interaction is sensed, M&S also gets the picture behind it. Which products draw people in, which ones get picked up and put back, where attention in that area actually goes. The same intelligence the online world reads from a product page, we read from the shelf. We know the moves, not the name. M&S turned a weak spot into one of the smartest corners of the store, and the more it runs, the more it learns.
